Redi-Ripe Receives SBIR Grant, Technical Assistance

Forget squeezing the produce: With the help of an $80,000 Small Business Innovation Research grant, plus free technical assistance from Sandia National Labs’ Small Business Assistance Program, a New Mexico inventor and his Arizona-based colleague are about to take the guesswork out of shopping for produce. Redi-Ripe will begin marketing “ripeness stickers” which measure the level of ethylene gas emitted by a fruit or vegetable, next year. Without the help of the two organizations, plus the financial assistance, which CEO Robert Klein says is helping the company to perform research and development as well as field trials the sticker would have just been an idea, rather than a reality.
